For 30 days worth of the generic version of the drug Lipitor, you're probably going to spend more than $100.
But if you use AARP's prescription discounts card, the price tag will be cut in half.
That's what the consumer website consumerworld.org found during a recent study about little-known prescription drug discount cards.
Consumer World used five different discount cards, from AAA, AARP, The National League of Cities, UNARx and Simple Savings.
It found that you could save up to 70% if you don't have prescription coverage.
But average savings were only 16%.
For best results, you may have to compare prices, while you mix and match cards.
