Antibiotics linked to inflammatory bowel disorder in children

A new study is linking a widely used type of antibiotics with a chronic ailment in children.

Research published in the journal Pediatrics finds inflammatory bowel disorder may be connected to anti-anaerobic antibiotics.

The authors found children exposed to these drugs had an 84% higher chance of developing IBD.

Anti-anaerobic antibiotics include common medicines like Penicillin and Amoxicillin.

Researchers say curbing the use of the drugs in children could help curb the rise of IBD.
