ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A teacher at Broadneck high school has been relieved of her duties.
Not only was she a teacher, but she also coached for the athletic department.
The board of education reassigned English teacher Erin Thorne, while it investigates her.
A letter sent home with students claims the decision is to protect student safety.
Thorne is also the girls basketball coach.
When the team starts practice tonight, she will not be with them.
Thorne taught at Broadneck since 2009, before that she was at North County High School.
Mary Anne Zaruba has a son who just graduated from Broadneck, and another son about to enter Broadneck. The event has not changed her opinion of the school. She still feels it has a great reputation.
County board of education administrators would not say where Ms. Thorne was reassigned to, citing that was a personnel matter.
At this point, this is only a school investigation. Anne Arundel County Police are not investigating at this time.
Another coach will take over the girls basketball team during the investigation.
