Wear orange on Unity Day and stand up to bullying

BALTIMORE - Wednesday will be a great day to break out the orange shirts, ties or scarves you stashed in the closet when the Orioles season ended. October 12 marks Unity Day, a nationwide campaign sponsored by PACER's National Bullying Prevention Center.

The group's goal is to get everyone wearing orange - in their school, community and even online - to send a message of support to students who have experienced bullying. It's part of a larger campaign marking October as National Bullying Prevention Month .

You've probably also seen the Unity Day Facebook Event invitations that are going around asking people to "attend" the event and wear orange.

On its web site, PACER listed a few other ways for students and teachers to get involved in the classroom and online.

1. Wear the color orange.

2. Hold a classroom discussion to define the word "unity."

3. Write the word "unity" on your hand, your notebook or create a banner to sign.
