The Shoshana S. Cardin School sits tucked away in Northwest Baltimore. David Prashker, the New Head of School, takes over as Baltimore's only Jewish Independent School celebrates its tenth anniversary.
Prashker started several weeks ago. He has already restructured the school's leadership team and introduced new academic and leadership programs.
"It's all about growth. It's all about building a vision for the school when it was first founded ten years ago to bring the Jewish Community together regardless of what denomination and to build a school that focuses on critical thinking on critical inquiry on developing young and informed minds," said David Prashker, the New Head of School at Shoshana S. Cardin School.
Under Prashker's new leadership, growth and development are top priorities at the Jewish High School. The school serves nearly 50 students in ninth through 12th grades.
Previously Jewish studies and general studies operated separately and now each will be fully integrated under its own Dean.
The New Head of School has also introduced the Individual Action Plan. It's a Leadership and Mentoring Program that pairs staff advisors with individual students to coordinate community projects and internships.
"One key thing at Cardin is that we are a College Prep school. We really work with children as individuals ready to understand who they are and what their needs are and what their goals are," said Prashker.
Prashker brings 25 years of Jewish education and leadership experience. He's held positions throughout the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.
He hopes his experiences can help in a global education for students. Students are excited about the new school year.
"As with a new Head of School, there is always change. I think we are going in a positive new direction. I think it's for the better. I think Mr. Prashker is going to move us forward," said Sydney Anshel, a Junior.
The Cardin School will showcase new initiatives at two fall Open House events for prospective students on September 12th and November 4th.
