BALTIMORE - The Y of Central Maryland's Baltimore County Head Start Program was named one of 10 Head Start Centers nationwide to receive the Center of Excellence award.

One part of the programs and services overseen by the Y of Central Maryland, the Baltimore County Head Start benefits from the collaboration with their partners.  One of the partners, the Baltimore County Public Library, regularly delivers books to the door of the Head Start Center and provides regular story times.

"Libraries support education by helping young children gain school readiness skills," said Dr. Nancy Grasmick, State Superintendent of Schools. "Head Start has prepared thousands of children by giving them a jump start on their education."

The CEO of the Y of Central Maryland said the Y's Baltimore County Head Start is a model program.
