BALTIMORE - This is not your average scene at M&T Bank Stadium. More than 100 boys and girls have invaded the football field for Lil Ravens Cheerleading Summer Camp.
It’s a week of learning dance moves, stunts and cheers from Ravens Cheerleaders.
“I think it's lots of fun because you get to meet new people and hang out with your friends and get to do stunts, dances and cheers. I’m having lots of fun at cheer camp,” said Lauren R, Lil Raven Camper.
“It's fun because I get to be with the real cheerleaders,” said Jane D, Lil Raven Camper.
From six to 14 years old, campers learned the routines. They broke up into several groups.
Some learned the routine quickly, but for the younger campers it took a little more work and concentration.
“You learn how to jump up in the air,” said Emma S, Lil Raven Camper.
“I’ve learned lots of stunts and I like doing stunts,” said Grace F, Lil Raven Camper.
“Doing the stunts and the dances and the cheering was fun,” continued Jane D.
“You get to dance and get on peoples shoulders and cheer. It’s lots of fun,” continued Lauren R.
Organizers say the camp had a great turnout. It’s a way for Ravens Cheerleaders to connect with fans.
They focused on the athletics and dance skills of cheerleading. They want the campers to feel what they feel when they cheer in front of thousands of Ravens fans.
“This is a unique experience for them, not something all little boys and girls get to do. It’s really a time to show them what we do on the sidelines and gives them something to look forward to in the future, if they want to become a NFL cheerleader one day,” said Dana W, Ravens Cheerleader.
The cost of the camp ranges from $225 to $325. Some campers will cheer on the sidelines at the Ravens pre-season home game and receive a DVD of their performance.
