ST. LOUIS, Mo - Handwriting doesn't count at least not in many schools. While you probably had to practice your letters over and over, many school kids don't even learn cursive.
The Common Core State Standards make no mention of learning script. But the national curriculum does include keyboarding. Some teachers in St. Louis Public Schools tell the Post-Dispatch there's little time to practice handwriting.
But there are some experts who say learning handwriting helps brain development related to reading, writing, memory and critical thinking.
