OWINGS MILLS, Md. - A lovely melody fills the air at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts in Owings Mills. Isaac Parham is practicing on the saxophone for Dreams of Tomorrow.
It's an event to showcase art work of young adults and jazz musicians. It benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation and youth charities.
Daryl Smith is a retired professional baseball player behind this event. He encourages young people to reach for their dreams.
"Giving back is essential. It's needed and we need to stay focused on our youth. They are the dreamers of tomorrow," said Daryl Smith with the Dreams do Exist Foundation.
20-year-old Darren Guest was born with Muscular Dystrophy, a muscle disorder. He's an artist that has illustrated two books for Daryl.
He's excited to have his work of art on display.
"I think it's a great opportunity for artists like myself to come out and show what we do. I am grateful to have met Daryl and given this great opportunity," said Darren Guest, artist.
Evan Dodson is a senior at Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson. He loves to paint. Several of his pieces of art will be on display.
"I think it's a real good opportunity for anyone especially for him to come at me. I am 17-years-old. For him to pick me and select my artwork is a really good opportunity," said Evan Dodson, artist.
A number of featured artists including Isaac Parham will take the stage performing R & B and Jazz.
"I think it's an outstanding event and it's a blessing and when he came to me with his vision. I saw it and I am trying to assist. It's an excellent opportunity for the kids," said Isaac Parham, musician.
The Dreams of Tomorrow Event will be held at the Gordon Center in Owings Mills on Sunday February 12th. Doors open at 2pm. The event runs from 3pm to 6pm.
A portion of the proceeds benefits the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation and other Baltimore Youth Charities including a Group Home for girls.
