ANNAPOLIS, Md - Comptroller Peter Franchot recently visited Georgetown East Elementary School to present the first Golden Apple award for 2013 to Heritage Baptist Church.
The church is part of the Backpack Buddies program, a national program, which provides weekend meals to needy children in the community.
The church partners with Georgetown East Elementary School and other local schools to provide students on the school's free/reduced price meals program, healthy meals for the weekends.
The event took place on Thursday at 2pm at Georgetown East Elementary School on Dogwood Road in Annapolis.
