BALTIMORE - Summer vacation was extended a few days thanks to Irene, but today most of the students in our area are headed back to the classroom.
Cherry Hill Elementary/Middle School is one of those schools that are open. Student there will have an impressive visitor this morning, the city schools’ CEO, Dr. Andres Alonso.
Dr. Alonso plans to walk to school with students and visit a 5th grade math class.
It’s no secret Baltimore City Schools have had problems in the past—with cheating on state school assessment tests.
Administrators say that’s in the past and they are moving forward.
The focus this year is “transforming teaching and learning at the classroom level.” Educators want to make sure all students are achieving their full potential.
This year the goal is to strengthen the instructional core, the relationship between teachers, students, and the content because they say that is where learning begins.
Another goal is engaging families and community to transform the classroom because parent supper for learning is critical to ensuring excellence.
They also want to improve facilities to transform the classroom, making sure school buildings and classrooms are conducive to excellent teaching and learning.
