BALTIMORE - Baltimore Orioles' Adam Jones and Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will team up with Share Our Strength and other organizations to help raise awareness about the Baltimore City Super Summer Campaign.

Mayor Rawlings-Blake will announce a new partnership aimed at ending childhood hunger in Baltimore. Folks will serve summer meals to kids.

The event kicks off on Wednesday at noon at the John Eager Howard Recreation Center.

In Baltimore City, nearly 20 percent of children are at risk of hunger, yet only 47 percent of kids who received free school lunch in 2011 got a free summer meal. Summer is a time when students are at a higher risk of hunger and can also lose critical knowledge and skills known as summer learning loss.

Lack of awareness about free summer meals and other programming leaves kids farther behind academically and less prepared to achieve in school and beyond.
