Sixth-graders at Pimlico Elementary School are working side-by-side with architects.
The goal -- to find a design for the new school, which will be renovated under Baltimore City Public Schools' 21st Century buildings plan.
Pimlico will be one of the first schools to receive attention as a part of the plan.
HCM Architects conducted an activity with students Wednesday aimed and generating ideas not limited by realistic thinking. It's a practice that those with HCM Architects say works well.
"We're looking for the kids to help us plan the school," said Pete Winebrenner of HCM Architects. "...We found that when the kids get engaged, they don't have the same inhibitions adults do. They come up with some pretty good ideas."
Winebrenner described activities that the kids worked through as mind-opening.
Students used colored blocks to create designs -- fostering discussion of the school of the future.
