ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - Howard County Police are investigating a rash of car break-ins. They all happened Wednesday, October 16 in the middle of the day.
A quick smash and grab and in almost no time, the purse you thought was safe in your car is gone.
It only took a few minutes in the parking lot at Children's Manor Montessori in Columbia. Jenny Harkleroad is the director there. She says it happened during the busiest time of day when parents are dropping off their kids.
She says, "A parent came in and said there's glass all over the ground, so I ran out there and me and a parent came out at the same time and she saw that her window had been broken and was very upset and immediately called the police."
It turns out, the 9 a.m. robbery was already the third of the day. There were two other incidents just like it in Elkridge and Ellicott City, also at day care centers. There would be a fourth victim a few hours later.
