ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WMAR) - A Howard County judge has sentenced a man to 5 years in prison for the death of Phillip Wise at a Columbia apartment parking lot in September 2011.
This morning, Anthony Patrick Parker was sentenced to 10 years with 5 years suspended for his role in the death. Last April, Parker was convicted of voluntary manslaughter.
At this morning's sentencing hearing, the State's Attorney's Office asked for a 10 year sentence, the maximum for voluntary manslaughter, stating that Parker "is a danger to the community and a danger to the people he knows."
The Attorney read a victim impact statement from Wise's mother, who was present in the courtroom. "I may be broken, but I am still whole because of the support around me," Marie Laguerre wrote.
Parker was also placed on a 5 year supervised probation period following his release from prison.
