ELLICOTT CITY, Md. - Howard County police have arrested and charged a man who they believe broke into an Ellicott City apartment and inappropriately touched a teenager sleeping on a couch inside, according to a release.
Police arrested 19-year-old Alan Jaramillo-Jimenez at his home the 3100 block of West Springs Drive on Sept. 27. Officers found a stolen laptop and cell phone in his possession at the time of the arrest.
Jaramillo-Jimenez is charged with three counts of burglary, theft, sex offense in the fourth degree, second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property, online court records show.
Police believe the suspect is responsible for cutting a window screen to break into an apartment in the 8700 block of Town and Country Boulevard back on Sept. 21 at around 5:15 a.m. Once inside, Jaramillo-Jimenez stands accused of stealing a cell phone and a laptop and touching a sleeping teenaged girl over her clothes.
Investigators discovered that around 2:30 a.m. that night, a man matching Jaramillo-Jimenez’s description approached the victim’s mother on porch.
“The man asked for a cigarette and she gave him one,” the release states. “She went inside and closed and locked the door. After the burglary, she was able to provide a detailed description of the subject to police. Based on the description provided, officers were able to identify him as Jaramillo-Jimenez.
Jaramillo-Jimenez is being held at the Howard County Detention Center on $175,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 22 at 8:45 a.m. in Ellicott City.
