NORTH EAST, Md. - Maryland State Police are searching for four people who attempted to steal a lawn mower and caused a deadly accident in the process.
Police say five suspects were in a pickup truck and attempted to steal a John Deere lawn tractor from a Lowe's parking lot.
Once an employee spotted the suspects, the attempted to flee the scene, four of them in the cab of the truck and one in the bed.
They crashed through a gate and onto Route 40 without looking.
Once the truck crossed Route 40, it was broad-sided by another car, and the suspect in the bed of the truck was ejected.
The other four suspects fled the scene on foot, but the man in the bed was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Police are still looking for the other four suspects.
