NORTH EAST, Md. - The latest vandalism prompted Reverend Les Thompson to close First Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
Racial slurs, drugs and malicious destruction tested his commitment to keep its doors open as his father had before him.
After someone cut the gas line and left gun casings on the church's steps, Thompson had to face the fact that it may no longer be safe to hold services there.
News that a neighbor had allegedly smashed windows and destroyed property over the weekend was the final straw.
