ELKTON, Md. - The little girl shot shortly after midnight on New Year's Day in Cecil County has died.

The Cecil County Sheriff's Office says 10-year-old Aaliyah Boyer died late Thursday morning.

Boyer collapsed while watching fireworks in Elkton just after midnight on New Years Day.  She had some sort of wound to the top of her head and was rushed to A.I. Dupont Children's Hospital in Wilmington.

Witnesses told deputies they heard several gunshots in the area around the start of the New Year, so sheriff deputies believe the wound may have come from a gunshot from a nearby home.
