WESTMINSTER, Md. (AP) - A Carroll County jury has convicted a Columbia man of attempted first-degree murder in a shooting at a Westminster apartment complex.
The jury deliberated about two hours on Wednesday before finding 21-year-old Montrell Troy Schumpert guilty for his role in the May 2011 shooting. Schumpert will be sentenced on Sept. 27.
Authorities say Schumpert shot another man, Tony Boyd Jr., in the abdomen during an argument in May 2011. Schumpert's lawyer argued that three of the eyewitnesses who testified were intoxicated at the time of the shooting, and therefore not reliable.
