WESTMINSTER, Md. (WMAR) - A Westminster man was arrested today for the attempted shooting of a roommate during a verbal dispute.
Carroll County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 1900 block of Frizzellburg Rd just after 5:00 p.m. Thursday for reports of a shooting inside a residence.
The caller told police that he was unable to leave the home because his roommate, Douglas Lee Barnes, 53, had threatened him and was firing a handgun.
Police say Deputies were able to speak with Barnes who voluntarily exited the home and was taken into custody, stumbling and falling as he walked onto the front porch.
The victim told police that he and Barnes became involved in an argument but had gone upstairs to diffuse the situation.
Barnes threatened the victim and fired several shots inside the home. After the first shot, the victim called police.
Several of the bullets had gone into the room in which the victim was, but he was not hit by them.
Barnes was taken to Carroll Hospice Center for an emergency psychiatric evaluation.
Police found the gun suspected to be used in the incident as well as holes in the wall and ceiling and shell casings.
Barnes was released from the hospital and charged with first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment and using a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence.
