WESTMINSTER, Md. - A Hampstead man will spend the next 18 months at the Carroll Detention Center after pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

William Arthur Campson, 22, of the 4300 block of Sycamore Drive, pleaded guilty Monday to a third-degree sex offense with a 13-year-old girl. He was sentenced to 18 months at the Carroll County Detention Center.

According to the plea agreement, on March 17, a 13-year-old girl was dropped off at TownMall in Westminster, and met Campson, whom she had met three weeks before, and his friends. The girl later told officials at the Carroll County Advocacy and Investigation Center she engaged in sex and other sexual activities that night, according to court records.

The girl told authorities that Campson knew her real age before the sex occurred and that it was consensual.

Following his sentence, Campson will have five years supervised probation and a sex offense evaluation will be made within 30 days of his release. He is barred from having any unsupervised contact with anyone younger than 18, and must not have contact of any kind with the victim.
