HAMPSTEAD, Md. (WMAR) - As Hampstead residents slept Sunday morning, thieves moved through the Northbook neighborhood and more than 50 unlocked cars.
Police say, the cars were all parked in driveways along Broadmoor and Glenside Court, Woldholme, Allview and Schaefer Drives.
Thieves got away with more then $1,300 in portable electronics, change, jewelry and other valuables.
Before leaving, the group of thieves slashed a car tire, a convertible Jeep top and pushed several vehicles from the driveways, one actually rolled across the street and into a tree.
The preliminary damage estimates exceed $6,000. Sheriff's Deputies worked late into the evening Sunday collecting information and evidence from the area.
Residents are urged to roll-up car windows, lock car doors and remove valuables when leaving their vehicle unattended.
Also, residents are asked to report unfamiliar vehicles and persons roaming neighborhoods and parking lots in the late evening and early morning hours.
