Woman charged in hit and run accident

ESSEX, Md. (WMAR) - A teenager suffered injuries that landed him in Shock Trauma following a hit and run accident in Essex.

According to Lieutenant Robert McCullough, spokesperson for the Baltimore County Police Department, crews responded to the area of Southeast Boulevard and Turkey Point Road on Friday for a hit and run accident. 

Officers conducted an investigation that revealed a Ford van had been disabled on the side of Southeast Boulevard when 19-year-old Kwante Betters, a passenger in the vehicle, got out to look for jumper cables.

Betters reportedly saw a Ford F-150 truck barreling toward him and the van, and pushed the driver, Lauren Bielanski, out of the way.

While pushing Bielanski from danger, Betters and the disabled van were struck by the truck. 

Betters was thrown into the middle of the road, and the truck fled the scene of the accident.

Later, police found the truck in the  2300 block of Poplar Road and learned that 32-year-old Christina Campbell had been driving at the time of the hit and run crash.

Police arrested and charged Campbell with hit and run charges.  She has since been released.
