TOWSON, Md. - UPDATE: Baltimore County Police have identified the man shot and killed outside Towson Town Center Monday night.
Police say 19-year-old Rodney Vest Pridget, who lives in the Baltimore area, was shot just before 6:30 p.m., on the sidewalk outside the east side of the Nordstrom department store.
When officers arrived, they found Pridget but no witnesses or suspects. Detectives don't think it was a random shooting and are currently looking into a number of leads, including video from the mall.
“I think it’s horrific. I mean it’s ridiculous,” said Sharde Kitt, a shopper who found out about the murder as she drove away from the mall.
Towson Town Center is one of the largest and busiest malls in the region. It remained open during and after the investigation.
Baltimore County Police officers entered the mall to search for suspects. “Looking for someone who may look panicked or suspicious; someone who based on (the officers’) training and knowledge of human nature, someone who may have just committed a crime,” said Elise Armacost, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore County Police Department.
Police also closed off some of the mall’s entrances and exits, checking vehicles for any suspects.
“I tried to go out Joppa Road but they blocked it so then I had to come all the way back down and I’ve literally been 45 minutes and I didn’t even go to the mall,” said shopper Kelly Bryant.
Markers for shell casings bearing the numbers “6” and “7” could be seen at the scene of the murder, but police would not say how many shots were fired.
“We’re not sure what we’re looking for,” Armacost said. “We don’t have a suspect but we are certainly aware that this is the height of the shopping season and that there are going to be concerns about safety and security. ”
