RANDALLSTOWN, MD - Baltimore County Police have identified the man shot by an officer early Labor Day morning outside a Randallstown grocery store as 45-year-old Henry Francis Harris Jr.

According to police, a 911 call was received reporting that a man was chasing and assaulting individuals in the parking lot of the Food Lion on Liberty Road and the first officer on the scene opened his vehicle's door and was attacked by Harris.

The officer first on the scene said that Harris was hitting the patrol car with his fists, and then punching him once his door was opened.

The officer says he was struggling with Harris, who was able to take the officer's service weapon, before he put the gun to the officer's head and pulled the trigger several times.

The officer was able to take the magazine out of his service weapon and fire the bullet in the gun's chamber before Harris was able to get control of it.

A second officer arrived at the parking lot and saw the struggle.

The second officer says that Harris stood up and pointed the gun at him at which point the second officer shot him.

Harris was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma in critical condition.

He has been charged with attempted murder and first degree assault.

Harris remains in police custody with bail denied.

The officer who struggled with Harris had some minor injuries and both officers involved are on paid administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
