TOWSON, Md. (WMAR) - A 19-year-old man is in the hospital after he had an altercation with Baltimore County Police.

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Castle Drive on June 24 for a man reportedly beating a woman inside an apartment. A woman reported that she had let the father of her child visit even though she had a domestic violence protection order preventing him from coming to her apartment or contacting her.

She told officers that he punched her. When officers tried to place the man under arrest, be broke free and ran. A warrant was issued for the man.

On June 26, officers again responded to the same apartment to serve the warrant. The suspect was seen through a window inside the apartment, and officers entered the home to arrest him. The suspect was found in a closet and refused to come out.

Police say the suspect began reaching for something under a pile of clothing and pushed an officer, causing him to call backwards. The officer and suspect struggled, and the officer struck the suspect with his flashlight as he attempted to arrest him.

The officer had also tried to hit the suspect in the arm, but he moved and was hit in the head. After a threat of officers using a taser, the suspect was finally placed under arrest.

Once in handcuff, officers found a laceration on the suspects head. The suspect was conscious and talking, but complained  his head hurt.

Officers took him to a local hospital where his condition deteriorated. He is now listed in critical but stable condition.

Police have obtained a second warrant, charging the suspect with second degree assault on the officer.

The suspect's name has not yet been release, as he has not yet been officially charged.
