TOWSON, Md. - Baltimore County police arrested an off-duty city police officer who appeared to be drunk and pointed a gun at people in a Towson parking lot.
City Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said while there is no assumption of guilt, the allegations in the police report are “reprehensible” and the department has “zero tolerance for any activity which undermines the integrity of this agency or the public trust that we work so hard to earn.”
Matthew David Daugherty, 28, was arrested around 2:15 Saturday morning by county police after an employee at the Rec Room in the 500 block of York Road called 911 to report an off-duty city officer was drunk and making repeated references to his gun.
The employee told police he took Daugherty’s keys but he slipped out a back door before officers arrived.
A short time later, police found Daugherty in a parking lot at Delaware and Pennsylvania Avenue. Two men approached the officers and said he had pointed his department issued Glock 22 handgun at them.
He was arrested and charged with two counts of reckless endangerment. County police said Daugherty posted $75,000 bond and was released.
Guglielmi said Daugherty was immediately suspended and will face internal disciplinary proceedings in addition to criminal charges.
Baltimore City internal affairs investigators are assisting county police in their investigation.
