ROSEDALE, Md. - It is tough to watch. A transgender woman walks into a McDonald's bathroom and gets a beating by two females. We now know the name of one suspect. Police say 18-year-old Teonna Brown acted along with a 14-year-old girl.

"It's deadly wrong for someone to do a human being like that," said Sandy Rawls, executive director of Trans-United.

Rawls is helping to organize a rally outside of the Rosedale McDonald's on Monday, one week after the beating was caught on tape. She says the abuse is nothing new.

"This is common. It was caught on tape. It was posted on YouTube. This happens all the time in the transgender community," said Rawls.

Some public comments condemn the person behind the video camera. In fact, the employee was fired.

But Rawls says the recording may be the best thing that happened since it sparked a nationwide conversation. The victim, 22-year-old Chrissy Polis, talked to us by phone.

She says she had a seizure when the hitting and kicking continued for three minutes. Polis says one of the teens said she was a man using the women's bathroom and accused her of talking to her boyfriend.

The transgender community believes cutting out the discrimination and violence all begins with educating kids.

"Teach them that all people are to be respected, all human beings and all living things are to be respected then we don't have to worry about this behavior," said Rawls.

The organization Equality Maryland has asked Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler to investigate the incident as a hate crime. Baltimore County police say they are working closely with Gansler's office.

"This is something that happens all the time that we need to put an end to it," said Rawls.

But so far the charges do not reflect a hate crime. Baltimore County police say Teonna Brown faces with one count of first degree assault and two counts of second degree assault for hitting a woman who stepped in to help.
The 14-year-old was charged as a juvenile.

The rally gets started at 7 Monday night.
