Baltimore, Md - It's tough to drive a truck over the road at anytime but police say this crash probably shouldn't have happened.
The driver of the truck, 46-year-old Glenn Grise of West Orange New Jersey, police say was drunk.
He touched off the accident when he tried to swerve and changed lanes too quickly.
“In the left lane a tractor trailer overturned that tractor trailer stopped caused all traffic to stop on 95. The debris from the crash fell over that elevate portion of the roadway there on 95 onto 895 which is directly below at that point." MdTA PIO Sgt. Kirk Perez says.
Grise is charged with two counts of DUI, negligent driving and failure to maintain a lane in addition to a federal charge for operating a truck while under the influence.
Traffic was flowing smoothly today but interstate 95 was closed for more than seven hours and 895 was closed for more than four.
As busy as these two roads are at any time of the day, it was by chance that no one was hurt when the barrels fell down onto 895.
"They were fairly heavy just by circumstance the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel was about to be put into two lane operation for routine maintenance and all traffic had to be held on 895 at that time we were lucky that no traffic flowing at that time." Perez says.
Grise is being held at Baltimore Central Booking.
He was not injured in the crash.
