BALTIMORE (WMAR) -

Baltimore City Police are investigating a shooting that involves one of their own.

Police say they spotted a suspect who looked armed near the intersection of Edmondson Avenue and Hilton Street at about 6:30 p.m. Monday.

When officers attempted to stop the man, he fled the area, but first came at officers "in a threatening manner".  It is unclear if the suspect was inside or outside a vehicle at the time he was seen by officers, however, the man was in a vehicle as he fled.

After the suspect came at officers, they opened fire, striking the vehicle numerous times.

Officers continued to follow the vehicle until it crashed in the 800 block of Longwood Street.

The suspect was found to have been struck by at least one bullet. He was taken to a local hopsital in serious condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
