BALTIMORE - Baltimore City Police identified two officers involved in a shooting early Thursday morning in East Baltimore.

Police said that Officer Stephen Sistek, a 17-year veteran of the force and Officer Steven Dorn,  a four year veteran, were involved in a non-fatal shooting in the 1500 block of E. Lanvale St. Thursday morning.  Neither officer has been involved in a prior shooting.

According to police, around 12:20 a.m. Thursday police were called to E. Lanvale St. for a report of an armed person.  When the officers approached the man later identified as 25-year-old Richard Jenkins,  he pulled a gun from his waistband and police fired in self defense. Jenkins was not hurt in the exchange and ran up the street where he encountered another officer who shot him in the calf.

Jenkins was taken to Johns Hopkins with non- life threatening injuries.  A semi automatic handgun was recovered from the scene.  He is facing numerous handgun and assault charges.
