At home in Catonsville, Alma Holokai finally knows the real name of the man who hired her a year ago. She planned to run what was supposed to be a photography studio in a North Laurel warehouse.

"Craig Smalls with an ‘s’ is the name he went under," said Holokai.

Darien Craig Small is his legal name, according to online court records. Making up names is only the beginning of his scams, according to his victims.

"Given what I learned from your story last night is how many aliases he had and apparently he was looking for a name that wouldn't draw attention," said Holokai.

It seems there's reason for Small to stay under cover. A website stopdariensmall.com was created by a victim and the stories started to come in.

Small has been charged in several states and in more than 10 jurisdictions in Maryland. According to the stories, he doesn't follow through with brides for their wedding photos, with freelance photographers wanting to rent space from him, and with Holokai who quit her job based on his promises.

"Oh my goodness. I was without work all summer. I had quit my job, so I had no income coming in. I was unable to get unemployment because I had quit my job," said Holokai.

Looking back, Holokai says she should have listened to her gut and one strange question from the man who never became her boss.

"The red flag was when he asked me to sign a contract for him prior to signing an employment agreement he wanted me to pick up a contract and sign my name to it for him. I wouldn't do it," said Holokai.

Holokai searched his name, but found nothing under his alias. She has no recourse, unlike the other people who say Small took their money and dropped the ball. But the real picture of the photographer is all she wants.

"This to me is recourse, the fact that he's now exposed. And the fact that now people can see him for who he actually is… that's recourse to me," said Holokai.

Darien Small was arraigned on a half dozen charges on Monday, including theft.  He pled not guilty. His trial is set for May 6th.
