BALTIMORE (AP) -

A man convicted of killing a high school friend he had reconnected with has been sentenced to life plus 25 years for fatally shooting her.

Forty-one-year-old Kenneth Brunetti was sentenced Friday in the 2011 death of Lois Jean Vance Smyth. Brunetti was convicted of first-degree murder in Smyth's death.

Prosecutors say Brunetti and Smyth had recently rekindled their friendship when they got in contact on Facebook. On May 29, 2011, Smyth drove to Baltimore to meet Brunetti to attend a cookout with him. Her body was found that afternoon in Leakin Park.

Brunetti was arrested two days later driving Smyth's car.
