Runaway inmate returned to custody

BALTIMORE (WMAR) - Baltimore City Police and Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services officials have located a man who ran away from a work assignment today.

Joseph Viars is now back in custody after he ran away from a work assignment in the area of Patterson Park at about 1:00 p.m., Monday.

While working with an inmate work crew in the area, Viars jumped over a fence and ran across the park.

Viars is currently serving 1 year and 1 day for second degree assault.
