BALTIMORE - Baltimore police are stepping up patrols around the Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Federal Hill for the next two weekends ahead of St. Patrick's Day after violence broke out last year.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the department won't tolerate any individuals acting irresponsibly.

The department plans to add motor and foot patrols in anticipation of crowds.

Last year's St. Patrick's Day included a videotaped beating of a Virginia man in downtown Baltimore, as well as neighborhoods trashed by partiers and fights involving teenagers around the Inner Harbor.

Police are also targeting the Canton neighborhood and say drinking won't be allowed at O'Donnell Square.

Last year's party spilled out of the bars into the square.

The citation for having an open container of alcohol in public costs $250.
