BALTIMORE (WMAR) - A Baltimore man has been charged with murder for killing his 5-year-old daughter said a Baltimore City police spokesperson.

According to court documents, 22-year-old Matthew Carr is charged with first and second degree murder, child abuse resulting in death, assault and reckless endangerment.

Around 10:30 Monday night, Baltimore police got a call from a home in the 3400 block of Callaway Avenue in Northwest Baltimore.

Originally, they were investigating the death of a five-year-old girl as suspicious.

But by Tuesday night, police were calling it a homicide.

A spokesman for the Baltimore City Fire Department says a 911 caller reported the girl was found unconscious in a bath tub.  She was taken to Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police are not saying if the man in custody is related to the victim.

"Police had somebody on the pavement last night in handcuffs," said Charles Rawlings, a neighbor.  "It was a shock, a shame somebody would take a child's life like that," he said.

Police gave an update in the morning.
