ARNOLD, Md. - A trip to the post office was anything but typical for a 64-year-old woman Monday.  She was attacked trying to walk back to her car.

Anne Arundel County Police say the incident happened around 4:30 p.m. at the Arnold Post Office.

The woman was attacked by another woman as she left the post office and tried to get back to her car.  She told police the woman grabbed her purse causing the victim to fall to the ground.

"She (suspect) started tugging on her purse, and she (victim) fell to the ground," said Anne Arundel County Police Department spokesman Justin Mulcahy. "She (suspect) got into a car and sped off down Church Road."

Those living around the post office say the area is safe, and that hearing of such an incident is outside of the norm.

"I've lived here 25 years, and I never heard something like this happening here," said Arnold resident Sue Centurnelli."

Christine Drewyer of Annapolis says the type of incident is unheard of in the area around the Arnold Post Office.

"I have not heard of it happening around here at all," she said. "That's unusual."

"I guess it's desperate times and people do desperate things."

Drewyer said she has a purse with a shoulder strap and a handle. She said she keeps her hands on both.

The woman mugged says she wasn't hurt in the attack.
