GAMBRILLS, Md. (WMAR) - A Severn teen is now facing kidnapping charges following an incident at a church.
Officers responded to the Faith Community Church on Waugh Chapel Road for a report of a possible child abuse on June 11.
Officers spoke with the mother of the 9-year-old victim who reported that her daughter and an acquaintance were waiting inĀ the church office the day before when a 15-year-old male suspect entered, removed the 9-year-old girl and took her to an adjacent room. In the other room the suspect restrained the girl and began choking her.
The victim's acquaintance reported the incident to a relative who removed the girl from the situation.
Police determined that the suspect had restrained and assaulted the same victim in the same place a few weeks before this incident.
After consultation with the State's Attorney's Office, the 15-year-old suspect was charged with a juvenile citation of kidnapping, first and second degree assault, false imprisonment and reckless endangerment.
The suspect has been committed to the Cheltenham Youth Facility.
