JESSUP, Md. -
Narcotics police got a unusual surprise Friday when a drug bust netted more than $3,000 worth of marijuana, $792 in cash -- and an alligator.

The three-foot American alligator, which was found at 7506 Gleneagle Drive, was discovered after Anne Arundel County police executed a search warrant related to suspected drug trafficking at the Jessup home.

Animal control captured the alligator, which was taken to a facility for exotic animals. Police said the animal was kept as a pet. It is illegal to have a domesticated alligator in Anne Arundel County.

Michael Golden, 32, was charged with numerous drug offenses including possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

During their investigation police say it was discovered Golden has ties to the Dead Man Inc. street gang.

Additional charges are pending.
