ELKRIDGE, Md. -   Anne Arundel County Police are looking for a hit and run driver that struck a bicyclist and sent him tumbling down an embankment Saturday night.

According to police, at 7:36 Sunday  night officers were called to Ridge Road near Furnace Avenue for a report of a bicyclist struck. When officers arrived they found a Fuji bicycle lying in the road and a 64-year-old man in the woods down an embankment with serious life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that a car driving south on Ridge Road swerved and rode along the edge of the wood line. When the car righted itself it hit Stephen Eugene Shenefiel who was riding his bike southbound on Ridge Road. Shenefiel was forced off the road and the car kept driving.

Evidence from the scene indicates the car is a silver or light grey pre-1993 Nissan, possibly a Nissan Sentra. The vehicle possibly has damage to the right (passenger side) front bumper, and has damage to the right front headlight and marker light. The vehicle is also missing part of the right side mirror.

Any information on the suspect vehicle please call 911 or the Anne Arundel County Police Traffic Safety Section, 410-222-8573.
