HARWOOD, Md. - Anne Arundel County police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that left a man dead in Harwood.

According to police, just before 7:30 a.m. Sunday officers were called to Solomon’s Island Road north of Harwood Road for a report of a man lying in the road. Officials declared the man dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation found that the pedestrian was hit by an unknown vehicle that continued driving north on Solomon’s Island Road. Evidence collected at the scene indicates the car is a 2003 Volkswagen Golf, MK4. Police said the vehicle should have significant damage to the passenger side and include the grille, bumper, windshield and mirror.

Police say that Stuart Sohovich walked into the Southern Police District Station saying that he may have been the driver involved in the crash.

Investigators then interviewed Sohovich and determined that he was the driver of the vehicle.

The identity of the pedestrian will be released upon notification to the next of kin. He is described in a police department release only as a black male. Anne Arundel County Fire Spokesman Chief Michael Cox said the man appeared to be in his late teens to early 20's.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact the Anne Arundel County Police Traffic Safety Section at 410-222-8573.
