PASADENA, Md. - You’ll find no shortage of children at play here in the Elizabeth Landing community, but it’s a different kind of child’s play---bottle bombs, that have raised an alarm with their parents.

Jennifer Klein’s kids discovered one of them behind her back yard.

"They're like, 'No.  Really.  There's a bottle back here.'  So my husband went around,” said Klein, “It hadn't exploded like fire or anything, but it was squished and there were pieces of tinfoil scattered around that looked like it had been burned."

You could call the mixture of household chemicals placed in a combustible bottle a recent phenomenon fueled by how-to videos on YouTube, but Battalion Chief Steve Thompson of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department calls them a threat to public safety.

"The huge danger in this is if you're holding it when it explodes, you could cause permanent danger to your hand,” said Thompson, “If it's close to your face, you could literally lose your sight from the bottle exploding."

It’s a message not lost upon parents here on Tennant Harbor, like Clemence Tshinga-Mabudi who has three daughters.

"That one is very dangerous... especially for kids.  Like as a mom, I don't expect to see that with my kids that kind of bottle and they're playing with it.  It's very dangerous for our kids.  Yes."

Especially when it’s almost in your back yard.

"We have kids.  We're constantly out here with the kids.  You can tell my house looks like a parking lot for bikes, but there are always kids out here... and people take their dogs back there and kids ride their bikes around,” said Klein, “At the time of the day they found it, it's amazing no one got hurt.  It's amazing, because we literally have kids out here until it gets dark."

At this point, investigators have not identified any suspects, but witnesses say they did see three teens with a backpack running away from the scene.
