LINTHICUM, Md. - A pitbull believed to be a dog fighting "bait dog" was found in bad shape by Animal Control Officers in Linthicum, police say.
The dog, named "Rocky Road", was found in the 600-block of Andover Street on February 2. Police say Rocky was in severe pain and could barely move around.
Animal Control reached out to the Waugh Chapel Animal Hospital for help. They agreed to treat Rocky Pro bono. Doctors there say Rocky's injuries were consistent with injuries suffered by dogs used as bait to train other dogs to fight.
Rocky was taken in for surgery on February 3 and doctors say his condition is improving. He will need veterinary care for the next few weeks.
Once Rocky is ready, he will be taken to Tara's House, a non-profit rescue group. They will screen potential adopters when they believe Rocky has fully recovered.
Animal Control says they are actively searching for suspects. They are asking anyone who knows how Rocky ended up in this condition to call them at (410) 222-8900.
