TOWSON, Md. -

Fallout from the great recession has left many cash strapped Americans struggling to pay bills.

With the April 17th tax deadline looming, unpaid taxes often get added to that pile.

But with tax day, you could be missing out on thousands of dollars in tax credits.

Many people know they get tax breaks on their kids and their mortgage interest, but experts say many people leave out other tax breaks that could save them money.

Some other things that could help bring you tax breaks come tax time include enrolling in higher education, caring for a sick parent, teaching k-12 students, paying for child care, buying a house, surviving a natural disaster, and even paying your state income taxes.
