According to SmartMoney Magazine, American employers lose millions every year because employees are busy talking about the Super Bowl.

SmartMoney looked at the results of a study from the consulting firm Challenger, Gray, and Christmas, and they found American employers lost about one billion dollars in the week before the Super Bowl alone in productivity.

The researchers say people talking about the game itself, bets they're making, and of course, endless speculation about the eventual winner.

According to SmartMoney, 22% of American workers say they're less productive the day after the Super Bowl, 9% say they take it as a vacation day, and another 3% say they planned to call in sick.
