According to the CPSC there are hazards in the home we all need to pay attention to in an effort to keep our family safe.
Take a look at the top 5 and then take a look around your house to make sure these hazards aren't around your children.
1. Magnets: a lot of products contain small, yet powerful magnets. These magnets pose a choking hazard to young children. If swallowed they can attract, inside a child's body, causing major problems. If you think your child has swallowed a magnet, get to a doctor immediately.
2. Recalled Products: millions of products are recalled a year and it can be confusing to figure out what has been recalled and what is safe. So the best way to stay up to date on recalls is with this link for all the latest recall news.
3. Windows: over the past several years many different brands of window blinds have been recalled because the shades/blinds post a strangulation hazard to young children. There are kits you can purchase to make the blinds in your home safe or you can install cordless blinds.
4.Tip-over: kids will climb anything if given the chance, including furniture. Make sure TVs are on sturdy stands and pushed as far back on the base as possible. You should also anchor furniture, like dressers, to the wall to make sure they don't tip over. The CPSC has a new PSA on these hidden hazards in your home.
5. Pools & Spas: Suction from a pool or spa drain can be powerful enough to trap a child or adult underwater. Inspect pools and spas for missing or broken drain covers.
