BALTIMORE (WMAR) - It's what we all women want. Support, but we all need it in different ways. So could there really be a support system that fits all of us, or at least just us ladies?
We put the Genie Bra to the test and asked the question, does it really work?
The late night infomercial says that it's time "you stopped your daily struggle with an uncomfortable bra, there's got to be a better way, the Genie Bra!"
The Genie comes out of a box instead of a bottle, and also claims to grant you three wishes, comfort, style and support. We wanted to know if it is as uplifting as it promises. So we paid a visit to Ali Borzomati to test it out.
"It might help with back fat," said Ali.
Ali is looking for a little extra support, but she also wants comfort because she likes to sleep in her bras.
"A lot of bras in my size tend to be uncomfortable," she said.
Ali picked out three tops, one for casual, business and play. She modeled them wearing her own bra, then, very optimistically, the Genie Bra.
"It's definitely very comfortable. I'm not sure I like the shape with the padding in it," she said.
Ali was looking for a more natural look, so she removed the pads and modeled the bra with each top.
Ali says "It almost felt like it's supporting my back a little bit better, which is weird because it doesn't feel as supportive up here."
Ali told us that it was more comfortable with a different shirt, and she didn't like the straps.
After three changes, Ali was ready to review.
"I remember in the infomercial, it's talking about support. I don't think it's as much as they say it is," she said.
Sisters, Mindi and Lynn own Bare Necessities, a specialty shop that sells bras, panties and lingerie. They say the right bra can make or break your outfit.
Mindi says, "Not all D's or double D's are created equal and that's why we go up to a 50M."
Lynn says the fittings are free in their store and will only take up to 30 minutes of your time.
"People spend a lot of money on their outfits and you want to look good, but it's what's underneath that makes the top look good," said Lynn.
As for the Genie Bra its not quite one size fits all, it comes in three sizes, small, medium and large.
It sells for about $20, and as far as Ali is concerned it does work..sort of.
"I like the shape better with my normal bras. As far as a weekend bra, I can see myself wearing it, I would give it a B," said Ali.
