LINTHICUM, Md. - If you're holiday plans require a flight, ABC2 is working for you.
An ABC2 News investigation looked into the frequency of baggage scale inspections and the violations that could end up costing you at the ticket counter.
Now we're breaking down the fees you'll pay if you don't pack light.
Almost every airlines that flies out of Baltimore-Washington International Airport charges customers for their bags.
While Southwest and JetBlue take your first bag for free, six other major carriers charge between $20-25 for that piece of luggage. And the fees only build from there.
If the bags you're carrying are over 50 pounds, you should have your credit card ready, no matter which airline you're using.
AirTran charges the smallest fee for an overweight bag, at just $49. But other carriers like Continental go even higher.
Their company charges $200 for a bag that weighs between 50-70 pounds. And our breakdown shows you could pay between $70-400 more if your bag breaks the 70 pound mark.
