More research is shining light on the uncanny human-like characteristics of the domestic dog.
Researchers found that dogs who were spoken to or who had direct eye contact with a person were more likely to follow that person's gaze as it moved across a room.
The findings published in Current Biology online say some dogs had skills equivalent to 6-month-old babies.
The research shows that dogs are sensitive to the cues signaling human's communicative intent in way that is analogous to preverbal human infants.
A study done last July found that domesticated dogs were more likely to beg for food from a person looking at then as opposed to someone who wasn't paying attention.
In a USA TODAY article one canine-intelligence expert said he found that dogs have the developmental abilities of a human 2-year-old, and the average dog was capable of learning the meanings of 165 words.
Through eye-tracking techniques, researchers were able to determine that dogs were more likely to follow the human when they were spoken to and receive direct eye contact.
Researchers say if you talk to your dog in baby-talk voice, keep doing it. Your god will know that you are talking to him or her and they will pay attention.
